Ryan Park: SUN MILK

August 04, 2015 - September 19, 2015
Ryan spent his time at VSVSVS exploring materials and ideas informed by his experience as a son of an immigrant convenience store operator. Items found in a convenience store (lottery tickets, softdrinks, cigarettes, magazines, stock boxes) are the starting point for the works made during the residency, chosen for formal and personal associations that interweave lowgrade material culture, art conventions, immigrant commerce, and biography.

Ryan Park’s practice spans a variety of media and subjects, his projects guided by the material and poetic possibilities suggested by a subject’s salient characteristics. His works are at once matter-of-fact and evocative, oscillating between clinical and poetic. His work has been shown in exhibitions and screenings across Canada, the USA, and Europe.

Ryan Park gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council.
